Time to Be Respectful
A big part of practicing regular respect is learning how to manage your time so that you aren’t wasting the time of others. Rashelle Isip is a consultant and author who writes about practical ideas for organization, time management, and productivity. Her blog, “The Order Expert,” has been featured in multiple media outlets, including Time and The Washington Post. In “Time Management Tip: How to Respect Other People’s Time,” Isip offers clear advice on how to use your time wisely and respectfully.
- Start meetings on time | It might seem nice to wait for everyone to arrive, but delaying the start time of a meeting to accommodate late people is disrespectful to those who did show up on time. Stick to your schedule and show that you value the time of the people who are present.
- Let people know if you’ll be late | If you know you won’t make to a commitment it in time, call ahead. Isip recommends telling people where you are, when you think you’ll be there, and if it’s okay to start without you.
- Don’t volunteer other people’s time | You don’t know what someone’s schedule is like, so don’t put them in an uncomfortable position.
- Be present | Show people you respect them by giving them your undivided attention. Don’t waste their time or yours by being distracted.
